Hello, I realized that I have to query 17 million of data on Access and I seriously think it gets too slow and it's complicated to obtain specific information without waiting a looong time.

So if I use install a SQL Server, how much faster would it be? I mean...I really lack the expertise on that level but I'm willing to try in order to get things done faster.

Thanks for reading Smile.

"How much faster" is dependent on many factors:

1) Will there be an upgrade in hardware as well? There usually is: most of the time, you move from someone's desktop computer hosting a shared Access file to a full-blown server for SQL Server.

2) Will the database design be revisited to ensure that it is fully normalized to 3rd normal form? If it already is in 3NF, then skip this step.

3) Will indexes be revisited to ensure coverage?

I'd assume you can get anywhere from worst performance to 10x faster on the same hardware - it just depends on many factors. One nice thing about SQL Server is that, once you port it to SQL Server, you can take advantage of things like the Database Engine Tuning Advisor and SQL Profiler to help you understand where the bottlenecks/problems are and how to fix them.

If you want the, "Don't make me think!" answer, then yes: it will be faster.
